Bangkok, with its vibrant energy and bustling streets, is a city that never sleeps. But beyond its dynamic urban landscape lies a treasure trove of cultural and natural wonders waiting to be explored. This summer, Thailand is making it easier than ever to discover these hidden gems with the launch of six new train routes from Bangkok.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand, in collaboration with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Boon Rawd Trading Co. Ltd, has introduced these routes to showcase the beauty and diversity of Thailand's lesser-known regions. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or an adventure seeker, these new train journeys offer something for everyone.
Explore Ratchaburi: Nature’s Paradise
Kicking off the new routes is a journey to Ratchaburi, a haven for nature enthusiasts. This area is home to the Tham Khao Bin Cave System, one of the largest cave networks in Thailand. Here, you can explore stunning natural formations and picturesque waterfalls at Khao Bin National Park. This route launched on July 6th, but there’s still plenty of time to catch the train and immerse yourself in Ratchaburi’s serene landscapes.
Discover Prachuap Khiri Khan: Coastal Beauty
On July 13-14, a new route to Prachuap Khiri Khan will begin, taking travelers to Thailand's beautiful coastlines, particularly the famous Hua Hin. This region is not only known for its beaches but also for its rich wildlife. Visit the UNESCO-protected Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park to see monkeys and elephants in their natural habitat.
Suphanburi: A Journey Through Tradition
Starting July 20-21, the train will head to Suphanburi. This route offers a glimpse into Thailand’s agricultural heartland, with vast rice paddy fields stretching as far as the eye can see. Don't miss Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, a stunning Theravada Buddhist temple that has stood for over 600 years. Suphanburi is also famous for its pottery, with many local markets offering beautifully crafted pieces.
Prachinburi: A Blend of History and Nature
Launching on July 27-28, the Prachinburi route is perfect for those who love both history and nature. This region is known for its majestic temples, lush forests, and spectacular waterfalls. Visit Wat Prathum Bucha and enjoy the serene natural surroundings. Prachinburi’s Khao Glok Restaurant is a must-visit for food lovers, offering authentic Thai cuisine that will delight your taste buds.
Chachoengsao: Historical Charm and Spiritual Significance
August brings two more exciting routes. The first, launching on August 12, heads to Chachoengsao. This route is part of the Mother-Child Historical Steam Train Trip and highlights the region's historical and religious sites. Wat Sothorn Wararam Worawihan is a must-see, along with Garesha Park, home to the world’s largest Ganesha statue.
Kanchanaburi: A Scenic Adventure
The final route, launching on August 17, takes travelers to Kanchanaburi on the Mother-Child Royal Blossom Train of Happiness. This journey offers breathtaking views of the turquoise waters and waterfalls at Erawan National Park. The trip also includes a ride over the historic Bridge over the River Kwai, providing plenty of photo opportunities.
How to Book Your Adventure
The KIHA 183 tourist train serves these new routes, with weekly departures. For July, a two-day, one-night travel package is priced at 3,999 baht ($109) per passenger. August routes will be day trips, with pricing details to be announced. Tickets can be booked via the D-ticket system at any of the train stations listed above.
