New Nonstop Route from the West Coast to Amsterdam

Starting October 27, travelers will have a new, convenient way to fly nonstop from the West Coast to Amsterdam. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is set to inaugurate a year-round route between Portland, Oregon, and Amsterdam, replacing the current Delta Air Lines service.

Enhanced Connectivity with KLM

This new route, which will be serviced by KLM’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, marks the airline's 21st city in North America. It aims to provide passengers with seamless connections to KLM's extensive network across Europe and beyond. Boaz Hulsman, Vice President of Commercial for North America at Air France-KLM, highlighted the significance of this new service, emphasizing its role in expanding KLM’s transatlantic network and reinforcing the airline's commitment to connecting people and places.

Year-Round Service and Increased Frequency

The flight schedule varies with the seasons. During the winter months, KLM will operate three flights per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. In the summer, the frequency will increase to five flights per week, adding Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to the schedule. Each flight offers a range of seating options, including 30 World Business class seats, 21 Premium Comfort class seats, and 224 economy seats, ensuring a comfortable journey for all passengers.

Extensive European Connections

Travelers departing from Portland will benefit from direct flights not only to Amsterdam but also to several other European cities, including Frankfurt, Iceland, and London. The new KLM service enhances connectivity, allowing passengers to access over 100 cities across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and India via KLM’s hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Additionally, the partnership with Delta Air Lines, a fellow SkyTeam Alliance member, ensures seamless connections to Delta’s extensive U.S. network via Portland.

Transition from Delta to KLM

The new KLM flights will take over from Delta’s existing service between Portland and Amsterdam, with Delta's last flight scheduled for October 25. This transition highlights the strong partnership between KLM and Delta, as they continue to collaborate to provide excellent service for their customers. Delta expressed gratitude for KLM’s partnership in maintaining this vital connection for travelers.

SkyTeam Alliance Benefits

As part of the SkyTeam Alliance, KLM and Delta allow their loyalty program members to enjoy reciprocal benefits. Passengers can leverage their elite status across both airlines, enhancing their travel experience with perks such as priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, and lounge access.

A Legacy of Excellence

KLM holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest airline still operating under its original name, having celebrated its centenary in 2019. The airline continues to offer unique perks, including the tradition of gifting Delft Blue miniature houses filled with Dutch gin to business class travelers, a charming custom dating back to the 1950s.

Plan Your Trip

For those planning a trip to Europe, the new KLM service from Portland to Amsterdam provides a convenient and comfortable option. With the added benefits of KLM and Delta's extensive networks and the amenities provided by KLM’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, passengers can look forward to a seamless travel experience.
