Madeira has been considered by Travel and Leisure Magazine (T&L), the best island destination in the world for the eighth consecutive time.

This is something that Madeira's tourism sector has become accustomed to, as it has been listed among top 25 best islands since 2007, when T&L first published its list of favorite travel destinations.

In 2016, Madeira was again awarded four stars by the prestigious publication. It was also chosen as one of ten places you must visit before you die – according to National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Bradt guidebook – which means that Madeira is ranked among some of planet Earth’s most stunning locations such as Antarctica or Machu Picchu.

In fact, since its appearance on T&L’s ranking of 40 best places to visit in 2020, Madeira has always remained in first place.

Madeira best island world 8 years

The average score of 90 points out of a total of 100 reflects customers' satisfaction with all aspects of their stay on Madeira, including food, service, location and value for money.

This award was given by T&L to all islands worldwide in various categories: best islands in Europe; best island destinations for 2018; best honeymoon locations; top 10 beach holiday resorts; top 10 places to visit before you die; top 10 luxury cruise ships etc..

We can only congratulate the Madeira Island and its people for their hard work, dedication and great hospitality. It is also important to highlight that this award is the result of a collective effort in all sectors: the private sector, the public sector and civil society. The Madeira Islands are not just beautiful but also have an excellent quality of life due to their natural resources (i.e., solar energy), high-quality products such as wine or cheese, friendly people and high standard services provided by hotels and restaurants. These features make it one of Europe's most popular destinations today.
